Who are they? What are they? What do they do?

Well, in a simple explanation, they are the people who have the keys to the city when it comes to entertainment. The so called “shot callers “ of the game. Without them the city would be dull and boring. Their appearences at different events stir-up crowds that gather to see them. They command a certain unique attention whenever they walk into a room. They are Uganda's movers and shakers of the entertainment scene. Many of them have come and gone, but they contiue to prevail by beating all those odds.

A bell must have sounded by now about this type of talent. They travel all-over the country from show to show leaving a good number entertained. They have managed to hook fans of all classes. From the affluent all the way down to the survival class. They are nowhere close to disappointment. They have a track record of delivering excellence for their work. They have been doing what they do for over 10 years now. I don't know about you but anyone in this world that delivers some kind of service or product for a period of 10 years, in my opinon, deserves to be respected whether or not you like them. And this is also true because it also shows a true sign of diligence and devotion, something that many of us loose along the way.

Am going to make this clear that am strictly referring to the music industry in Uganda and for that reason, much as there may be several people who fall under this category, I personally want to mention only two individuals that I believe have dominated the scene and they are none other than Jose Chameleone and Juliana Kanyomozi.

Thank you.

Pretty Girls
Written by Janan Maberi    Monday, 02 August 2010 14:03    PDF Print E-mail

When was the last time you actually took your mind on a journey to dreamland? Where you fantasised mostly about fame and being recognised as one of the finest socialites Kampala has to offer..

This is an everyday experience for me and it's not entirely inspired by money.

Its simply the amount of free things that such people get. You go to a club and things are on the house...You get to a restaurant and everything you order for feels like it is coming out of your personal kitchen.

Sometimes I think that they get too much for, you know, very little. I'll explain, celebz come in all shapes and sizes these days; music artites and producers, actors and actresses, politicians, rich and sucessful individuals and of course “pretty girls”.

I would therefore like to specialise on the pretty girls..Man !! Where do I start? This category is the main reason that many grown men are broke 90% of the time. They don't have a special talent or accomplished anything of great importance, but they seem to get whatever they want. So how do they do this? Simple, look and smell good 90% of the time. They don't have to be naturally beautiful these days because there is cure of some-kind for any difficiency in the cosmetic industry. Whether its skin pigmentation or jaw misplacement, there's a remedy.

Today, it's justifiable to make a case for beauty as being nutured and not natured. And guess what? We all know them by their first name and not the last or middle which frequently happen to be deal brakers.

Always dressed to kill, not to skimpy but not to innocent either. They have the perfect balance. Should you go to “happening places” in the city, they are the same faces you will meet all the time. No disrespect to any lady out there that makes an honest living and likes to party, but the ones am talking about don't do anything and yet their popularity is alarming..They remind me a lot of certain US elites such as Paris Hilton and Amber Rose..yeah, people you see all the time on TV but don't quite understand what they do!!

The other side of the celebrity coin.

Just like every one else, I've had dreams of being a celebrity. You know.. basically being able to be appreciated for whatever hard work you put out for the pubic to recognise. In many cases its through music, acting, comedy, sports and so on.

Many have the conception that the famous are composed of those few listed categories above.

But why leave out figures such as politicians(A FEW) who really work hard for their communities or doctors that save lives and still go unrecognised for their greate work.. In my eyes, a person who saves lives should be regarded as the top most celebrity figure that a society can to offer.

But then again..those are just my own thoughts. We all know this doesn't apply in today's world. All the credit goes to the guys behind the big screen. From the big houses to the beautiful cars.. they have it all.

Am not against the stars that we have today. No. Am simply raising the fact that we ought to recognise other idividuals in society who work as hard or some times even harder than those we see on TV. They're just like anybody else in the entertainment scene who put out something successful that is appreciated by the public. The only difference is that the work they do ( doctors and so on..) is what actually contributes to the development of a community.

Infidelity

Is becoming a celebrity a guarantee to a life of unfaithfulness?

So many would seem to think so, but can you blame them?

The recent breakup that I know of is that of music artistes The Dream and Christina Amilian. They are currently pursuing a divorce after getting married a couple of weeks ago. As if that isn't shocking enough, Christina gave birth to The Dream's baby some months back before the separation.

The list goes on and on with these successful people and one doesn't get surprised any more..One minute you're told so and so is getting married, the next is how they had a terrible break up.

If a couple is aware that trust is a big issue from the beginning, why go as far marriage, honestly!! Most would urgue that fame comes with a perception that one can get away with anything. Some probably believe that these stars are simply young, naive and not able to make good decisions regarding their personal lives and end-up falling into embarasing situations.

I personally don't think that this is entirely the case. Sometimes they are victims of circumstances, for example Rihanna in the Chris Brown incident, where she wouldn't have guessed that Chris, as charming as he appeared, would be abusive to her.

I guess the point am trying to make is that they are not all the same. Many stars are naive and don't take relationships seriously while there are some few that do and pride themselves in having trust for each other. However there are those unlucky one's that are hit with a stroke of bad luck from time to time and endup with wrong partners, victims of circumstances really and not unfaithful on ther side.

Misconception

Who is a celebrity?

Below is a list of answers I came up with that seem to be a common understanding about a celebrity;

  1. A person who is more important than you are.

  2. Somebody living a much happier life than you probably do.

  3. A guy or chic whose always good looking with a perfect set of nice clean white maize grain shaped teeth.

  4. An individual who spends most of the year vacationing in islands, beaches and what not.

  5. A human being who probably doesn't rebound underwear.

  6. A gentleman or lady at all times.

  7. A person who seems like he/she always floats on air when they walk.

  8. A dude/ babe who always seems to have all the opposite sex drooling each time they take a bite of lets say a cake.

  9. A class of people who always have there way.. The list is endless guys.

  10. Rich.

Well I'm here to cut your overwhelmed imagination short by simply saying this is a misconception.

We, yes that goes for me too, don't have any idea what some of these popular people do to maintain that status. The hard work they put in, the sacrifice of time, dedication and amazing belief in themselves to achieve what we foolishly consider to be impossible. Therefore putting them in a position to be admiral figures.

Let me give a simple and clear example that has nothing to do with wealth, but a lot with health..and in Hollywood they call it “sex-appeal”. When famous movie and music stars appear everyday on our TV's with their “perfect” bodies, we fail to see beyond the screen. We literally begin to praise and worship them. What we don't think about sometimes is how many hours (averagely six) they put in the gym, to attain that physical sharp look.

But you and I just run up a hill once a month and call it quits on the sexy body pursuit..Then we wonder how these “celebs” do it while drinking gallons of beer companied with sticks of pork or goats meat.

The point am trying to make here is that most of these celebrities work hard for whatever it is we praise them for. They are not more important but rather  have a different attitude towards life, which we all should try and emulate instead of singling them into a different kind of perfectious world that we assume they live.

That's my time people...Peace!!
